Slack's Design
Introduction
One day when I read "is group chat making you sweat?" a really big light bulb went off in my head. I realized that Slack's design really was a huge problem, and people needed to know about it. I believe that Slack's design is not good for remote work in particular despite being constantly touted as a great solution for it.
How Slack killed Email
- Email's slow decent caused it be filled with spam
- Slack solved Email's transparency problem.
- Slack also solved Email's overly formal problem.
- Slack was even more addictive
Flaws
- Slack is a black hole of information
- Slack is a form of Social Media and uses Dark Patterns to encourage addiction to drive engagement.
- Slack is designed to keep you busy not effective.
- Slack destroys Deep Work by it's broken notification model and Slack's broken hierarchy of priority.
- Slack makes it impossible to talk in context because of it's app that does one thing model as opposed to Basecamp's an all-in-one solution model.
