Project management is about communication
When you often think about project management tools we often don't think about communication tools such as Slack. However, as a though experiment ask yourself the following questions:
- has anyone ever asked you to do something over Slack?
- Has anyone ever followed up on a ticket in Slack?
- Have you ever got an pull request in a reasonable amount of time without pinging them on Slack first?
- Have you ever talked on a ticket AND talked with some in slack about the same ticket when they didn't respond fast enough?
- Have you ever had a meeting where you talked over a Kanban board such as a planning meeting or Stand-up?
- Have you ever held meeting because a project wasn't on track?
If any of the above are true it's foolhardy to think that project management and communication can be separated. This is one of the reasons I find Basecamp so compelling. It combines the two together because in a real sense they where never different.
