Slack's GIF problem

The Web is smothering in useless images. These clichéd, stock images communicate absolutely nothing of value, interest or use. They are one of the worst forms of digital pollution because they take up space on the page, forcing more useful content out of sight.

Slack really has this problem. It's filled with tons of emojis and makes getting GIFs as easy as typing a slash.

This really matters because they usually don't contribute much to the discussion yet they dominate the vertical space, which is the most precious resource in slack. Links do this as well as they unfurl into a huge block.
