Usability doesn't matter

A lot of people say things like, "Doesn't matter how ugly it is, so long as it works!" While this might be true in some situations I think it discounts the idea that software's design can't affect our behavior. We all have a relationship with softare in which we try to get it to do things, and it tries to get US to do things.

Software design uses friction and UI grease to make things easier and harder. These have a more of an influence over our behavior than we would like to admit.
